Hello and welcome! I'm J.E. Russell, author of The Liberty Pole (a YA dystopian that follows three friends through a war as they struggle to understand what it means to be free), cartoonist, and all-around nerd. While I have dabbled before, I am fairly new to the blogging community. I'm sure there will be a learning curve, but better to start now than never, yes?
My first thought was what to write about... I'm easily distracted by most things shiny (seriously, I could go wandering for days on end with some new fascination), so I thought it best to narrow it down to something that will always have my attention. I love writing, books, music, movies, theatre and history. Hmmm... History, writing, and while I wouldn't say I "love" politics (what sick person would actually admit to loving something as twisted as modern politics?), I feel as if it is something that should be followed. After thinking on that a while I decided to focus on history, sometimes with a political twist to it. After all, as the philosopher George Santayana said: "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."
I would like for this blog to be a place of learning. If anyone that stumbles across it has a particular fascination with a bit of history and/or the great men and women that make it up, please feel free to let me know and I'd love to put guest blogs on here! I'd also like to get to know my fellow history nerds out there, as well as to help to form some new ones.
In the turmoil that we live in today, I feel we should have a firm understanding of who we are, and to do that, where we have come from. There is no excuse, with the wide selection of places to go for information, for us not to be informed about a verity of issues. Hopefully this lonely little blog provide at least a little information not previously known, as well as some entertainment.
